Here in Northern Wisconsin Mother Nature does not adhere to the confines of the calendar created seasons. Here we are already weeks into the cold, dark, and wearisome winter days. Being a person who regularly grounds through direct contact with the Earth and sun I can already feel my Soul struggling.
I imagine, this feeling of withering is how a plant trying to survive a drought feels. I imagine that this is how someone who feels abandoned of hope and unseen feels.
Of course, there are many ways for me to combat this feeling and ground but that isn’t what I want to talk about. Well, not exactly. I want to talk about allowing hope to plant a seed even in the darkness. I want to talk about allowing others to help nourish the seed, about allowing yourself to ask for help and allowing others to shine their light so that your seed can grow even in your own darkness.
Many of us are taught that allowing others to help us with self-care, even mental health is a weakness.
Many of us are taught that discussing with others the dark places we may find ourselves mentally imprisoned, where we are trapped in our minds is also a weakness. Weakness tells us that we are somehow fragile or damaged for the feelings and struggles we have. It lies and creates anxiety that tells you how alone you are.
The reality is that not discussing our struggles or dark periods of the Soul is the weakness. Shutting down, staying trapped, not talking about our struggles and emotions prevents us from reaching full healing of self. Honestly, sometimes it brings us to our own end because we were ashamed to get help or embarrassed by the processes we would or have had to go through to get support.
We need to work together to end the stigma of giving others the support they need. We need to let others know we truly want to support them and that they are not alone in their feelings. Start the conversation, be an ear and hold the light for others when they are in their darkness.
We are stronger together!
