Recently, I was reminded of a funny but valuable lesson Spirit taught me when I was about 15 years old. My teens were a very tumultuous time for me, circumstances and losses beyond my control often left me feeling angry and lost.
At 15 having a 6-year-old sister, who I carried a lot of responsibility for was difficult and most days I found myself frustrated with the turn of these events in my life. It was after a rather frustrating day that I found myself at one of the home churches studies my mom attended. It was nearing the end and the prayer leader was asking for prayer requests for the week. I, sarcastically but irritated asked that God would give my sister laryngitis so she couldn’t talk for the week. Of course, not many in the group found me funny, I grumbled, and we soon left. The whole way home I was being lectured by my mother about what I said, and my sister was gregariously blabbing about something unrelated.
I laid down that night exhausted, forgetting entirely about what I had requested. The next morning, I woke up feeling fine, went about getting ready and then headed up stairs for breakfast. My mom, sitting in the living room drinking her coffee said morning as I walked through. Now, I am sure this will not be a shock to you, the reader, but when I opened my mouth to reply nothing, not even a squeaky, raspy whisper flowed from my lips. My mom looked at me and I swear I remember her starting to laugh to the point she was crying, already starting with “see this is why we don’t …”
I cleared my throat and tried again, nothing. I had been completely muted by Spirit and stayed that way for exactly 1 week. Why am I sharing this? It was in the remembering of this event that I was also reminded of a valuable lesson. Too often we overlook the words that come out of our mouth. We think that manifesting things into our lives is a process that we need to set our intentions to, but it is so much simpler and complicated at the same time.
Our words, our thoughts are powerful. They connect us directly with our higher selves and Spirit and we do not honor them in all things we speak or think. There was a time in my life I was very active in the church and clearly remember being taught that in all things we should honor God (Colossians 3:17). While my overall system and belief has changed a bit, I find many connections between all religions and teachings.
In all things we should honor Spirit or Source and we should be including our higher selves. We have lost the mindfulness and realization of the power simple things hold. Simply by the words we choose what negativity, hate, self-doubt and other false serving things are we bringing into our lives. We do not realize the power we have in our words and the chaos we create for ourselves. It is time to become present in our thoughts and creation of speech, change the vernacular one step at a time.
Thank you for taking time to read this blog. I am here, sending you inspiration, insight, and strength for what lies ahead in your own self-discovery and connection with Spirit. I hope somewhere between the lines of what I share and do not fully say that you find inspiration and revelations about yourself and your own journey. Please, if so, inspired leave a comment. Your feedback will help me better generate topics suited to you, the reader.
